What is Be Unique Week?
Be Unique Week was created by Heather Geiger, special education teacher, in collaboration with many experts in her field during the 2016/2017 school year.
Ms. Geiger has an MS in Education and 12 years experience teaching students with Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe Disabilities. She was voted “Teacher of the Year” in San Luis Obispo County, as well as at Lucia Mar School District and Ocean View Elementary School in 2019. She was also voted teacher of the year by Marco Forster Middle School and the City of San Juan Capistrano in 2010.
The goal of Be Unique Week is to create a movement where all K-12 schools dedicate a week to educating their students and staff about neurodiversity and people with disabilities, so that future innovators and leaders will build a world focused on inclusivity, kindness, and compassion.
